How do we get there?
Players meet in Glasgow City Centre for pre-game workshops, then will then take the train together IC from Queen Street Station up the West Highland Line to Corrour Station, the highest railway station in the UK and inaccessible by road.
Accommodation and the main setting of the game will be in the stunning Loch Ossian Youth Hostel, accessible only on foot.
Your ticket from Queen Street to Corrour is included in the event contribution.
You are responsible for getting yourself to Glasgow! It has an international airport with bus links to the city centre, two major rail stations serving the rest of the UK and a bus station. We recommend a shot on the Underground just for fun.
Wait. Roleplaying. On a train?
Yep! The game starts in Glasgow, and you will board the train to Corrour as your characters. You’ll be dressed in modern clothes and hiking gear, and hardly anyone will look at you twice. The train journey takes approximately three hours, and is an ideal quiet time to ease into your character, interact with other players and get a feel for the calm before the storm. There will be no plot on the train – this is purely an opportunity for you to play your character in their normal life. It’s completely fine to talk to other characters, buy a coffee or snacks from the buffet car, read a book or a magazine or have a nap – these are all things a perfectly normal media professional would do. We ask that you maintain your role (as a professional on the film crew) as much as possible, and only use your real name if there is an emergency or if required to do so by the British Transport Police.
No one will mind if you want to very occasionally discreetly step away from the game now and again to check your OOC messages, but signal is poor anyway and we would encourage you to stay IC as much as possible.
Warning:
Glasgow people can be chatty. We’ll do our best to keep the players sitting together and away from the wider public, but we can’t rule out the possibility of you being approached by a wee Glasgow granny who wants to know all about your life. There are no surprise NPCs on the train, so anyone you haven’t met already is a member of the public!
If you want to maintain character, please keep the conversation light and polite and please avoid saying anything upsetting! Alternatively, it’s completely acceptable just to say you’re going up north to do some walking and leave it at that. Crew members will be on hand if you need help extracting yourself from friendly locals.
What if I miss the train?
Disaster!
Please don’t. While other trains are running, mobile phone reception is extremely poor onsite and we will have no way of making contact with you if you attempt to arrive at a different time. Corrour is no place to wander around on your own in the dark, and there is no other accommodation for 20 miles. We can’t offer a refund to people who miss the train. We will escort you from the workshop space to the train station and ensure you board the right train at the right time.
What if I have to leave site early?
We ask that no players leave the event before Sunday morning other than in exceptional circumstances. Obviously if there is an emergency we will do everything we can to get you offsite, up to and including involving mountain rescue, but we cannot guarantee that a message sent from off-site will reach you. Should the need arise, a crew member will assist you in getting on the next available train to Glasgow should an emergency arise elsewhere requiring your presence.
