What food and drink will be supplied?
Food will be provided from dinner on Thursday until brunch on Sunday. Due to the isolated nature of the site, military-style ration packs will make up the bulk of your meals, supplying 4000 calories per day, as well as a hot breakfast of porridge in the mornings. Vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options are available. Black teabags, instant coffee and powdered oat milk will be freely available. A full list of ingredients will be provided in advance of the event. No alcohol is permitted at this event.
What do I need to bring?
You are responsible for bringing your own outdoor clothing, waterproofs, hat, gloves and hiking boots, at least one full set of camp clothes in a drybag, and a suitably sized daypack for the hike. A kit list will be circulated well in advance of the event, and there are several good outdoor shops in Glasgow should you find yourself without a key piece of equipment before we board the train. Once you reach Corrour the nearest shop is a twenty mile walk away. Be prepared!
The game is set in 1996 and we encourage you to look at what people were wearing in the period to inform your costume. That said, hiking gear and casual clothes haven’t changed all that much, so don’t worry too much about using modern day outdoor gear if that’s what you have. Shell suits, joggy bottoms, Fruit of the Loom sweaters and lots of hair gel are encouraged for under your waterproofs!
Can I bring my own food/snacks/milk?
Absolutely, but please remember the bunkhouse is small, storage will be limited, and you will have to carry it to and from site yourself. All rubbish must be removed from site at the end, and you will all be issued with a heavy-duty bin-bag to collect your own packaging and ensure it leaves site with you. It’s probably not an event to bring eight bags of satsumas to unless you’re also going to eat the peel.
Play Area
The whole of the West Highlands is your playground. That said, we strongly advise against setting off across Rannoch Moor on your own. It is extremely easy to become disorientated and lost, and fatalities have occurred in bad weather when hikers have strayed from the path.
Although the players will be IC on disembarking the train and leaving Corrour Station, it will cease to be a play area after this point. No gameplay will take place in the station, near the railway tracks or its immediate surroundings.
Quiet Space
The bunkhouse is small, and has no dedicated full-time quiet space. The easiest way to get some silence is to step outside. The player bunkroom is an IC space, but a sign will be placed on the door, and if anyone needs a period of indoor quiet time during the game they are welcome to flip the sign to QUIET. This signifies to the rest of the participants that noisy or active behaviour should be kept out of the player bunkroom. Please flip the sign to its blank side when you no longer need quiet space.
The sign will also be flipped to QUIET between midnight and seven a.m. on Thursday night, between 2am and 7am on Friday night, and after time out at the end of the game.
Smoking
Smoking and vaping is not permitted in the hostel. You may smoke or vape outside, but we would ask that you do so a considerate distance from the building and other non-smoking participants, that you avoid any fire risk, and that all cigarette butts and other waste are collected.
Sleeping Arrangements
All players will sleep in a heated 12 bedded bunkroom. Bedding is provided. All bunks are single and participants must not share a bed. You must wear nightwear consisting of at least a short sleeved t-shirt and shorts, and we advise greater coverage for warmth. We recommend bringing earplugs. There is a second bunkroom for crew accommodation and games control, which will be out-of-bounds to players, and will be clearly marked as non-existent IC.
Toilets
Toilet facilities and showers are available in a separate block adjacent to the main building.
Photography
Players will be provided with a disposable camera by the organisers. During uptime we request that all photography is done with props supplied and handed in to the organisers at the end to be developed. We will share these pictures privately with participants but ask that they are not shared any more widely to preserve the secrecy of the game.
